It’s been reported that Spanish La Liga side Valencia CF have been sued by Batman creator DC Comics for copying the famous Batman logo.
Valencia reportedly tried to register an image of a bat as an official trademark of the club but DC Comics claim the image is too similar to two previous Batman logos and filed a complaint to the OHIC the EU’s trademark registration body.
DC Comics want Valencia CF to change their current ‘bat’ logo that has been used on the clubs badge and various kits over recent years. Valencia have used a bat on their crests since their formation back in 1919 whilst DC Comics was formed in 1934 and Batman wasn’t created until four years later in 1939.
Official documents apparently show the legal claim was initially launched back in May 2013.
We’ll bring you more details as the story develops.
