Special Manchester United 1968 Jersey

Football kit news from the English Premier League as a special Manchester United 1968 jersey made by Adidas has been released to mark the 50th Anniversary since The Red Devil’s won their first European Cup.

Fifty years ago today Manchester United’s Busby Babes become the 1968 European Champions beating the Portuguese Champions Benfica 4-1 after extra time at Wembley.

The triumph came ten years after the tragic Munich Air Disaster.

Talking about the clubs first European trophy, Sir Bobby Charlton said, “Without being disrespectful to the team, a lot of us were beginning to be past our peak and I knew a lot of us weren’t going to get another chance at this cup. But on the morning of the game I can remember thinking we had come too far and had been through too much to fail now. And we had everything going for us, playing at home and with a good record against Portuguese sides – and besides, after coming back in the Madrid semi-final the way we did, I thought it would be impossible for us to get beaten.”

Manchester United have released a special jersey in honour of the 1968 European Cup winning team that sees a predominantly navy jersey feature a golden crest on the left breast whilst the Adidas logo on the right breast and the stripes on the shoulders are coloured navy and so can barely be seen giving the football shirt a retro look.
