Brazilian side Corinthians have released a special retro shirt in tribute to their International friends Torino.
Back in 1914 the Italian side were the first International side to play Corinthians who had only been formed four years earlier. During the 1940’s Torino toured Brazil playing a number of the countries top sides. In 1949 the entire Torino team was killed during the Superga air disaster when their plane hit a wall at the back of the Basilica of Superga which stands on the hill of Turin.
Three days after the plane crash Corinthians paid tribute to their friends by playing in Granata (Maroon) coloured jerseys.
The Corinthians ‘Torino’ tribute shirt has a Granata base colour with a thick white ‘V’ neck collar and cuffs. Corinthians crest is placed on the left breast whilst a gold Torino logo appears in the middle of the jersey with the date ‘1949’ below it.
Sadly Corinthians won’t wair the special jersey during a match although it will be made available for public sale.
