Being The Kitman – Behind the Scenes with Football’s Kitmen

Being The Kitman is The Kitman’s interview series dedicated to the people working behind the scenes to make sure players and teams are ready for matchday.

From preparing shirts and printing names and numbers to organising training kit, packing for away games and dealing with those inevitable last-minute requests, the role of a football kitman involves far more than simply laying out the kit.

Through our Being The Kitman interviews, we speak directly to kitmen working throughout football, from the professional game to non-league, academy, women’s and grassroots football. They share their experiences of life inside the dressing room, their matchday routines, memorable moments, favourite kits and some of the unusual situations that come with one of football’s most important behind-the-scenes jobs.

What Is It Really Like to Be a Football Kitman?

Every club and every kitman has a different story. Some have spent decades working in football, while others combine the role with completely different jobs away from the game. What they have in common is the responsibility of keeping an enormous amount of clothing and equipment organised while making sure players, coaches and staff have exactly what they need.

The series offers a rare look at a side of football supporters don’t normally get to see, told by the people who actually do the job.

Meet the People Behind the Kits

The Kitman has been speaking to football kitmen for many years, documenting their stories and giving recognition to an often overlooked role within the game.
